Is Holiday Nostalgia Good for You?

     I think sometimes, nostalgia is good for me and sometimes, it isn't. When I have a festival in the United States, I will feel very delighted because I can experience different feeling. However, when I am in the celebration, I will miss my family,too. I really would like to share this special festival with them. I wanna be glad with them, but it is impossible. I just can talk to them by the Internet. 

     The other side, homesick can help me grow up because nobody can help me when I got in trouble. I need to solve them by myself. I can learn how to be independent and don't dependent on my parents. I hope when I come back to Taiwan, I can be a really adult.

Why We Feel Nostalgic During the Holidays

     I think everyone has nostalgic feeling in the life. Certainly, I am no exception. I feel homesick now because this is my first time to leave my country for a long time. I miss my family: my parents and my younger sister. I miss all Taiwanese food. I miss my good friends. I miss a lot and a lot. Sometimes, I feel lonely at night and I will go seeing my family's picture or use skype to keep in touch with them. I consider that those are great ways to help me feel comfortable.

P.S: My Japanese friends will go back in 20 days. I think I will miss them so much because this experience is pretty special and valuable. Keep in touch, please:)

"Christmas Story" still a hit with cable viewers

     When the movie "Christmas Story" broadcast on TV, the festival "Christmas" became more and more popular rapidly. This film attracted a lot of people to know what Christmas was. The media influenced the society a lot. Because of it, many people could realize and saw the movie easily as well as conveniently. Lots of people would like to play BB gun after seeing the film. Although BB gun was very dangerous, there were still many people wanting to buy it. We could see that the media control the society easily and soon.

A Christmas Story (1983)

     This article talked about the film "A Christmas Story." A child would like BB Gun as his Christmas present.The movie was not only about Christmas and BB guns, but also about childhood, and one detail after another rings true. I thought it was very interesting. I wished I could watch this movie right now.

     Christmas is very popular in the world. Every year, children look forward to get gifts from Santa Claus.   Each children think Santa Claus will climb the roof and put the gifts next to their bed. Although the Christmas story is fake, parents always be Santa Claus. They will buy presents for their children. I like Christmas very much. I think the festival is very special and touching. I like the Christmas feeling because the Christmas tree is so beautiful and pretty.

     

Real-life Groundhog Days studied       I thought deja vu was a kind of special feeling. Many people had the experience in their lives before. Sometimes, their heads would show a few parts of memory. They could not remember the impression clearly, but it seemed they knew something before. It was not disease or sickness.             However, sometimes, deja vu would make some trouble for people because wrong memory maybe led to wrong things happened. It was very dangerous. So, if you had deja vu, you must think clearly when you would like to use this idea to do something.

Groundhog Almighty

     T he movie "Groundhog" was so excited and weird. There were some new thoughts in this film. In the story, the major role, Phil, thought he always lived in the same day. He could know everything in that day, such as what things would happen later or what the people would do in certain time. It was very amazing and unbelievable. He felt very bored because of the regular day. Later, he tried to do something crazy like killing himself or robbing the money and so on, but the day always started again when the time was at 6:00 A.M.

     I could not imagine that I always lived in the same day like Phil. I considered that I would feel crazy and depressed because I could not get fresh things in my life. I lost my excitement for anything. Maybe, I would be like Phil that try to do some bad things. 

Mind Blowing Movies: Groundhog Day (1993), by Ruben Bolling

     

     This article talked about the movie's plots "Groundhog Day." I think the major role was very strange and weird, but I would like to watch this movie right away. I was very interested in this story, such as what the man would do or what the man would like to change and learn, etc because there were a lot of different kinds of ideas and thoughts I didn't think before in this movie. I hope I could think about that when I finished the movie. 

      The festival "Groundhog Day" was also exciting because my country didn't own this kind of celebration. It's unique in America. I wanted realize this special festival. Although I didn't know what the man did sometimes, I considered that there were some meanings inside. I hoped I could see this movie quickly and understood more when I watched it.

Groundhog Day

     This article talked about a film which was named "Groundhog Day. " The major role was named Phil and he was a weatherman. Phil was played by Bill Murray and he was indispensable. The story was that Phil found himself living the same day over and over and over again. He was the only person in his world and after going through periods of dismay and bitterness, revolt and despair, suicidal self-destruction and cynical recklessness, he began to do something that was weird and strange to his nature. He began to learn and change.He astonishingly wanted to become a good man. After he met Rita, he fell in love with her. He thought when she stood in the snow, she looked like an angel. The point was not that he had come to love Rita. It was that he had learned to see the angel. He really changed a lot.

     If my life are the same everyday, I will be depressed, sad and feel bored because I like to learn new things and make lots of new friends. I love to go challenging and get excited from other things. So, I always like to change and learn. I think learning new knowledge can let me grow up. I am glad that I didn't have the same days everyday. Everyday is my new challenge. I just keep going and do my best. : )

Anatomy of a Panic

     I think this article is harder than before, but I try my best to understand it. This article talked about media's power and responsibilities. It talked that media could control many people and influenced the society very much. Media is like everybody's friend. We could not live without it. It 's very important for people to realize the new information about the world or their own country. 

     Yet, people could not believe whole things because they were not all true.If we trusted too much, we would get some trouble. We would feel panic and scared. Media could influence people deeply, so they should choose the messages which they needed to report or not. It was not good to create fake things to people. People would get wrong ideas from the fake messages.

The War of the Worlds Broadcast

     This article talked about media problems again. Reporters or speakers could broadcast easily. They even could decided what they would like to talk. However, I think they should take many responsibilities about their talks or reports because this information would influence a lot of people. They should consider what they need to say and not. If they created fake or wrong messages, those would let people feel panic. It was not good at all.

    Although reporting wrong information was very bad, I thought it was not whole reporter's fault. Listeners were also fool. They didn't think too much and just believed easily. It was not great for everyone. We needed to get more evidence when we heard new news. Thinking more was better.

"War of the Worlds": Behind the 1938 Radio Show Panic

     There is some confusion again. Media have strong power to control the society including the radio. Many people trust it without thinking. It is not good at all. It will cause much trouble and danger. I consider if we just believe the whole news or information when we hear form the radio, it is very stupid and fool. Because proof is very important. If there is not enough evidence, we cannot trust it easily. We need to search more information from other points of view. Fake messages will make people panic.

     For example,"The War of the Worlds" is a good instance.Thousands of people, believing they were under attack by Martian, felt panic when they heard this message from the radio. They believed it all and would like to escape from it right away. However, it was very fool, because there was not enough evidence to show that the natural disaster would really happen. It seemed a big joke. When the time passed, it didn't happen anything. So, I think we cannot trust the media "radio" all. We still need to think more it is real or fake.

Radio Listeners in Panic,Taking War Drama as Fact

     There are a lot of different kinds of medias in the world. Radio is one kind of medias,too. Lots of people can get information from it right away. Sometimes, when we need to realize what is happening now and can't surf on the Internet, radio is very useful and rapid. However, radio is the same as other medias. It also can convey wrong messages to people and make confusion to them. When some people get the information from the radio, they just trust it without thinking it is right or not. It is very dangerous for people because wrong messages will make people panic.

     Like natural disasters, when some people predict that the earthquake will happen in sometimes, that will make people feel scared. I think there is no reason believing it because they don't have enough evidence. We don't need to worry more about this unsure thing. So, although radio is a great media, we still need to be careful to use it.

How Media coverage of the Vietnam War Changed America, Journalism

     

     Although media often conveyed not whole right information, it really did a nice job this time. The Vietnam War was ended by media. This war were between Vietnam and America for at least twenty years. It was very cruel, brutal and ruthless. These two countries cost much money and broke lots of places. A lot of American and Vietnam soldiers were dead owing to join this war. Because of the war which was continued for a long time, more and more people didn't trust their government. Media showed the pictures which was very cruel and horrifying on TV. Lots of people refused to continue the war. They would like to stop the war. Although America didn't want to stop the war, finally, the war was over in the end because of people's pressure for the government.

     Media can covey lots of different kinds of information and should share the truth about the news.  It influences many people in the world. If the media expresses wrong thoughts, some people will get fake ideas. However, media is just like that. Media will report the parts which are beneficial for them. They will choose some parts and won't talk the whole real things. That will confuse the people.
     For example, there are a lot of reporters and journalists reporting in Iraq war. These American reporters took a few  pictures and showed them on TV. However, these photos were selected. Those could not told the whole war.Many people always were confused by media. If we would like to trust them, we must think twice and get more evidence first. That will help us realize which the real thing is.

Media manipulation

   We started to  learn and see media when we were just children. Media was just like our friends. We cannot live without it. It could let us realize lots of new things in the world. However, it was also a devil sometimes because little bad media would pass wrong ideas to affect lots of people to own false thoughts. For instance, someone who had enough political power or money would control the news media. They may pass the ideas which was beneficial to them. If the person was just a child, he or she could not distinguish which was right or not. This would cause a big problem.

   Though media was very important for everyone to get news, I hoped that each person could know how to choose the right one and criticize the wrong one. We could not be influenced by the fake news. When we saw the media, we also must distinguish it was good or bad in the same time.

Wag the Dog

   This article was written about a movie which was called "Wag the Dog" talked about politics, media and society. The movie was talked that a president created a fake war to draw attention away from a sex scandal with a teenage girl because the U.S. president was accused of luring an underage "Firefly Girl'' into an anteroom of the Oval Office. Brean wanted to use media to help the president because a presidential-election was coming. He had a motto "To change the story, change the lead." He would like to decrease the scandal and let more and more people pay attention to other things.

   Media always plays a pretty important role in our lives. We often watch the news on TV and get much information about this society. However, I consider that media's information is not all true. Sometimes, it is wrong and creates some fake news. Although  media can influence us a lot, we have to think twice when we hear the news. We must think it is right or wrong by ourselves. Being careful to face the media will help us more.

Loud echoes of TV history

   Lots of people like to watch reality TV shows. However, I think it has something good and something bad because all actors in the show don't own the privacy. Their privacy will be showed in public and all audiences can know their things clearly. This causes lots of problems.

   Like Lance Loud, he was the member in the show "American Family." He was told his real thing by the show. In fact, he was a gay, so many people know this reality. America met Lance, the first openly gay person on television, and watched the Louds' marriage fall apart. He encouraged his mind to tell his mom that  he loved a man. Although it was amazing, this thing led to a big revolution. However, this thing caused a big pressure to him, so he died early. I think if he didn't act in this show, maybe his life would be changed.

Hotel Chelsea

   The "Hotel Chelsea" was the old and popular building in New York. It was one of the city's first private apartment cooperative and the tallest building in New York at the time of its construction. It was located at 222 West 23rd Street, between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, in the Manhattan neighborhood of Chelsea.

    Lots of different kinds of people like to live in "Hotel Chelsea", such as musicians, literary artists, actors, writers, film directors and Visual artists, etc.They thought it was very comfortable and beautiful because there wasn't any room designed the same style. Every room was special. For example, Arthur C. Clarke wrote 2011: A Space Odyssey while staying at the Chelsea, and poets Allen Ginsberg, and Gregory Corso chose it as a place for philosophical and intellectual exchange. There were many notable residents living there before.

    

After I read this article, I wished I could live in Hotel Chelsea, too. However, it has closed for renovations in August 1, 2011. So, if I  have the chance to travel to New York next time, I will visit it and take lots of photos.

I’m OK, You’re (Really Not) OK: Memories of “An American Family”

   Long years ago, people only can choose heterosexuality, like man to woman or woman to man. Gayness is not permitted in the world. If you are homosexual, you will be discriminated against by all people. However, in this essay, there was a sexual revolution. Lots of social events were appeared in the reality TV shows. The right for everyone is fair. Every person should own the same rights. For instance, they can choose to marry with the person whom they like. Even though they are gays, they also can choose gayness in public. This is why more and more people like to watch reality TV shows because they can get more information about the real society.

Twenty Years Later, TV's Loud Family Proves There's Life After Fame

    Family is everyone's first social group in the life. It is very important because each baby starts to learn knowledge, hears the sound and gets information  from it first. A family which is good or bad can influence a person very much. Family members always play very important roles in teaching children.

    For example, if the family is harmonious, the children can grow up well. Because the parents can have excellent experience, they can give them good thoughts and ideas. Children always learn form their parents at first, so parents' perfect relationship can help their children walk in the correct ways. In contrast, if the family is bad and estranged, that will give the children bad memory in their life. Children will consider that they must follow their parents' thoughts. However, it's all wrong. They are not good for them. This will effect a person to go to an incorrect way. So, I am glad that I have a wonderful  family. My parents always teach me more and let me become more and more successful. Thanks for my lovely family.

The Real Deal on Reality TV

     Now, there are more and more reality TV shows appeared because they can attract lots of people to see. They don't need to spend too much money making, but they can help producers make a lot of money because they are popular and own many audiences. However, I don't think they are beneficial for us since there are some fake thoughts inside. It is impossible to happen in real life. Those events may make some confuse to us. We may make mistakes owing to watch these kinds of live shows. Although they are very funny, I still dislike them because they will influence people too much.

Just how real are reality TV shows?

   Watching TV is one of my favorite interests in my life. It can tell me plenty of new information and understand lots of ideas in the world. However, some things are correct,but some events are fake. You have to recognize by yourself. You cannot trust all the thoughts on TV because sometimes there are some wrong messages. 

   Just like reality TV shows, it cannot be all real things in the story. It needs to create some fake ideas to increase the pleasure because only real things will let the shows become a little bit boring. The producers not only would like to make perfect show  let audiences watch but also would like to make much money by these shows, so producers have to create something fun to attract a lot of people. If it will be popular, it is successful. Although reality TV shows are very fun, we still need to realize what is real and what is fake. Sometimes, a few incorrect ideas will mislead us. We must be careful.

The Player Center for Media

     This article talks about the documentary series "An American Family." The producer spent lots of months to find the one family in over fifty million available in the early seventies. It's a little hard to get it which was the best for the documentary. This TV show is a real story just like everyone's family no matter in America or   Taiwan ,etc.  The American Family opened up the institution of the family and issues of gender, sexuality and interpersonal relationships. I think they are very interesting. Maybe I will go find the documentary and enjoy it.

Reality-TV Originals, in Drama's Lens

      TV is a very important role in my life. In Taiwan, I often watch TV immediately after school.I remembered when I was a child, I usually watched cartoons every evening. I was always in front of the screen for a long time.Those funny programs made me laugh and happy. I thought TV was my best friend then.

      After growing up , I changed my mind. I didn't watch cartoons from then on. I began to watch news on TV such as political,economic,entertainment,movie, and sport news and so on because I disliked to read newspaper which is filled with too much words in it. Among this various news, I loved sport news the most. When I heard sport news in my bedroom, I would run out to see it right away. I am very interested in doing exercise.It is pretty exciting for me.I can not imagine if TV disappear in the future. Throughout this article, I realize more information about TV's development. This is very helpful to me since I can understand its background and history.

Christopher Reeve as a Role Model

      I think Christopher Reeve is an unbelievable person in the world. He made a real superman in his life. One day, he rode his horse but he fell down from the horse suddenly. This big accident changed his life. He could not walk and move his body. He was very depressed for his future life. He often cried when he woke up in the morning. However, he didn't give up himself .He still loved the world and liked everything in his life.
He was still like other people having dreams in their lives. He also would like to make his dream come true.

After he got hurt, he went to lots of universities to give a speech about his whole life. He shared himselves expeience to everyone who studied on the campus.He wanted to tell that don't give up easily.

      Christopher Reeve hold hopes instead of being mad after getting hurt.He still enjoyed his life. His wife and him helped many people. This is a real hero.He wasn't defeated by the accident. He used his way to deliver his thoughts and ideas in the world.

CHRISTOPHER REEVE DEAD AT 52“SUPERMAN” ACTOR BECAME CHAMPION FOR PARALYSIS RESEARCH

       Christopher Reeve is the movie "Superman's " actor who is very popular in the world. He shows power and justice in the movie. Also,he plays a courageous role in his real life.He encounters a big accident when he rides his horse.He falls down from his horse and gets hurt seriously. Everyone thinks he can not move his body or use his finger,but Christopher doesn't give up. He refuses to allow a disability to determine how he lives his life.He makes his mind choosing courageous steps. Finally,he restores little by little although he still can't be a whole healthy person forever. He successes in defending the impossible thing.

      Although  Christopher Reeve has dead, we still remember him in our mind forever. His story tells us that we can not give up anything easily. We should do our best if we can. I hope that I can learn more from  Christopher Reeve. Try my best and don't give up easily. I have to be more courageous to face any problem and solve it.

Superman as the essential American Hero

   I think the popular role"Superman" is very famous in all over the world.Every person almost read it or watched it before. After I read this article,I think I can realize more information about it.

   "Superman" was published by comic books. The story is very excited and interesting. He has strong power and very fast speed. He always saves people who need help , defend the earthquake and attack vicious power. Although he was sent to Earth by his father, I consider he is Savior for Earth. He can stand for American's culture. After published in comics, it also was showed on the movie. That can make more and more people know who Superman is. It's very successful for it to show up on the movie.
   
     I don't like Superman has relationships with World War II and the Cold War or other people have the wrong thoughts to commit a crime. I think this hero's story just want people to relax , let many children be delighted and have fun. Authors must be sad if they heard someone commit a crime after reading the story. The hero's story just would like to tell everyone about justice. We can not have bad ideas or do wrong things.

Comic Books: The American mythology

     The American mythology is very famous in the world,as "Spider-Man,""Spider-Man 2,""X-Men,""Batman,"and"Superman"etc. Many people have seen them before. Certainly,I am no exception,but I only watch them on the movies instead of seeing them on the comic books. However,I consider the outline is similar. It's very interesting for me to read these different kinds of books,especially the book called "Superman."

    Superman is a very exciting work. The main role saves a lot of people who are from different kinds of country and have not the same culture.I think he symbolizes justice,American way and strong power in the world. He also reflects that everyone must protect America and its culture.Although everyone is from different country,they are similar,so we should defend United States by ourselves.We are just like a very large family. It's very important to let everybody know.

    After I saw this article,I thought I understood more and more American mythology.Like "Spider-Man" or "Batman",every ordinary person can be the hero and protect themselves' culture. I will read more about these mythologies.
